What is a VAT Calculator?

A VAT (Value Added Tax) calculator helps you add or remove VAT from prices. Whether you’re a business owner pricing products, a freelancer invoicing clients, or a shopper checking the true cost of goods, this tool makes VAT calculations quick and accurate.

How VAT Calculations Work

Adding VAT (Net to Gross)

VAT Amount = Net Amount × (VAT Rate ÷ 100)

Gross Amount = Net Amount + VAT Amount

Or in one step: Gross Amount = Net Amount × (1 + VAT Rate ÷ 100)

Example: £100 net + 20% VAT = £100 × 1.20 = £120 gross

Removing VAT (Gross to Net)

Net Amount = Gross Amount ÷ (1 + VAT Rate ÷ 100)

VAT Amount = Gross Amount - Net Amount

Example: £120 gross with 20% VAT = £120 ÷ 1.20 = £100 net (VAT = £20)
